Kostiantyn Dmytrovych Ushynskyi was an outstanding Ukrainian and Russian pedagogue, innovator, school education reformer, initiator of scientific pedagogy and popular education, Professor at the Yaroslavsk Lyceum of Law, lecturer and inspector of the Hatchyn orphan institute and the Smolnyj institute, proponent of class system of education, and author of papers on theory and history of pedagogy, textbooks for primary schools (Detskij mir (Children’s world) and Rodnoe slovo (Native word)), and his basic work Chelovek kak predmet vospitaniya (Man as a subject of education) (2-volume set). K. D. Ushynskyi’s pedagogical system had a positive influence on further development of pedagogical thought in Russia, Ukraine and other countries.
