Library Stock

On 1 January 2019 the document collection of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine contained 578,939 units kept on traditional and electronic carriers. This collection is a universal one, professional editions constitute 50 % of it, and rare and important editions published in the 18th – the early 20th century constitute 10 % of it. The collection contains encyclopaedias, reference books, dictionaries, monographs, textbooks, manuals, teaching materials, research findings on current pedagogical and psychological issues, books on philosophy, history, linguistics and literary criticism, fiction, etc.

Annually it is filled with 6,000 documents.

In 2002 – 2003 V.O. Sukhomlynskyi’s family gave the library 3,393 items of documents, namely: outstanding teacher’s personal works, materials about his life and activity published in the Ukrainian and 50 foreign languages, documentary video and photographs collected after his death. These materials constitute the basis of the Reading Room of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi’s Collection opened at the library in March 2003.

In 2013 a collection of books presented by the President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine V.H. Kremen was formed in the library. This collection consists of 663 items in Ukrainian and Russian.

Rare Editions

A full-text database which includes 1250 rare editions published in the 18th – the early 20th century (until 1917) was created in the library. Access is provided through the local network of the library (in the mediacentre of the main building and the reading room of the affiliated branch).

The information about rare editions of textbooks is presented in the catalogue under the title «Textbooks and Manuals for Primary and Secondary Schools (1748–1917) from the Collections of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine».

The information about school textbooks is presented in the catalogue under the title «Textbooks and Manuals in Humanities for Primary and Secondary Schools (1918–1945) from the Collection of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine».

The information about educational and psychological journals published in the 19th – the early 20th century is presented in the scientific-bibliographic index under the title «Journals of Psychology and Pedagogics Published in the 19th – the early 20th century from the Collection of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine»

The collection of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine holds more than 1,000 periodical titles in the Ukrainian, Russian and foreign languages (1807–2016). The information about all the periodicals (newspapers or journals) received by the library is e-catalogued («Periodicals» Database). At present the catalogue includes over 800 periodical titles. Electronic catalogue «Periodicals» Database) is constantly filled with new information.

The library has subscribed 97 Ukrainian and foreign periodicals for 2019.
