23 September 2019 marks the 190th anniversary of the birth of Friedrich Dittes (1829 – 1896), a German pedagogue, leader of the German and Austrian teachers, teacher of popular schools, head teacher of the Teachers’ Training Seminary, school inspector, head of the Teachers’ Training Institute in Vienna, publisher of Pedagogium, disciple of John Amos Comenius, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi and Adolph Diesterweg, and author of the manuals on the methods of primary education, history and theory of education for teachers and educators Geschichte der Erziehung und des Unterrichtes (History of education and teaching), Grundriss der Erziehungs Unterrichtslehre (Fundamentals of didactics), and Methodik der Volksschule (Teaching methods for primary school).
