07 June 2017 marked the 175th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Oleksiiovych Sikorskyi (1842 – 1919), a Ukrainian psychiatrist, psychologist, pedagogue, Doctor of Medicine, one of the founders of children’s psychology and psychopathology, specialist in school hygiene, pedagogical pathology, psychology of preschool children, Professor and head of the department of the Kyiv University, founder of the Medical and Teachers’ Training Institute for mentally retarded and nervous children, the first in the world Institute of children’s Psychology, director of the Kyiv Frobel Teachers’ Training Institute, head of the Research Society of Psychiatrists, and author of Vospitanie detej mladshego vozrasta (Early childhood education), Dusha rebyonka (Child’s soul), Psihologicheskie osnovy vospitaniya i obucheniya (Psychological principles of education and training), and Kievskij Pedagogicheskij Frebelevskij Institut i ego zadachi (Kyiv Frobel Teachers’ Training Institute and its tasks).
