21 August 2018 marked the 143rd anniversary of the birth of Oleksandr Fedorovych Muzychenko (1875 – 1940), a Ukrainian pedagogue, specialist in primary education methods, popular education figure, specialist in didactics and comparative pedagogy, creator of such national education system as labour school in Ukraine, lecturer of pedagogy at the Prince Bezborodko Historical and Philological Institute, the 4th Odessa Men’s Gymnasium, head teacher of the private gymnasium in Kyiv, the first director of the Kyiv Pedagogical Museum, head of the labour school, Professor of Pedagogy at the Kyiv Institute of Popular Education, and author of Filosofsko-pedagogicheskaya mysl’ i shkolnaya praktika v sovremennoi Germanii (Philosophical and pedagogical thought and school practice in modern Germany) and Sovremennye pedagogicheskie techeniya v Zapodnoj Yevrope i Amerike (Modern pedagogical tendencies in Western Europe and America). He also produced the following manuals on complex approach to education and primary education methods: Kultura slova (Word Culture), Bukvar (Primer), and Yak navchaty hramoty za bukvarem (How to teach grammar using a primer).
