12 May 2018 marked the 143rd anniversary of the birth of Yakiv Feofanovych Chepiha (Zelenkevych) (1875 – 1938), a Ukrainian pedagogue, psychologist, methodologist, public figure, teacher of schools in Donbas region, creator of the Project of the Ukrainian school (1913), leader of the movement for creation of the national school in Ukraine (1917 – 1918), one of the developers of the principle documents about school and organisation of education in Ukraine, pro-rector and Professor of the Higher Institute of Popular Education in Kyiv, one of the organisers of the Institute of Paedology in Kyiv, head of the section of methods and didactics of the Department of Paedology at the Kharkiv Institute of Popular Education, researcher of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Pedagogy, member of the State Research Committee at the People’s Commissariat of the Ukrainian SSR, author of research papers on labour education, paedology, forms and methods of education, creator of textbooks for primary school (primaries, readers, problem books and methodical advice to them), and manuals for teachers.
