03 December 2018 marked the 296th anniversary of the birth of Hryhorii Savych Skovoroda (1722 – 1794), a prominent Ukrainian philosopher of the 18th century, popular teacher-humanist, itinerant thinker, writer, poet, translator, musician, singer, lecturer of poetics at the Pereiaslavskyi and Kharkiv colleges, author of educational treatises, treatises with messages, polemical and pedagogical parables, dialogical discussions, collected poetry Sad bozhestvennyh pesnej (The garden of divine songs) about the sense of human life, true happiness and freedom, fables (Basni Harkovskiya (The Kharkiv fables), philosophical treatises Beseda dvoe (Discussion titled ‘Two’), Dialog, ili razglagol o drevnem mire (Dialogue, or conversation about the ancient world), and translator of works by ancient and new Latin-language poets.
