Information Resources Development Department
The Information Resources Development Department of the V. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Educational Library of Ukraine was established in 2016 as a result of the merger of two departments: the Department of Scientific Document Processing and Catalog Organization and the Department of Scientific Collection Development, which began their activities in 2000.
The main goal of the department is to ensure the fulfillment of all functions of the V. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Educational Library of Ukraine in accordance with its purpose and place within the system of other scientific, educational, cultural, and informational institutions and organizations as a research, informational, organizational, and methodological center of the network of educational libraries of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine.
Main Directions of Department Activity
- The Department’s production activities are focused on acquiring and revealing the composition and content of the collection, primarily in the fields of pedagogy and psychology, and providing free and comprehensive access to the Library’s information resources by creating an information retrieval system in both traditional and electronic forms.
- Collaboration includes the participation of department staff in establishing creative connections with scientific institutions of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, educational institutions of all types and levels of accreditation, libraries of all types, and other organizations regardless of ownership (including foreign ones) in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.
- Department specialists participate in various mass events of different levels, organized both by the Library and other institutions and organizations.
- The Department maintains relations with the media and the public by publicizing the results of its activities on information boards and in the media; updating the Department’s page on the Library’s web portal and other information resources created to highlight and support the Department’s activities on the Internet with relevant scientific information.
Main Tasks of the Department
The main task of the Department is to participate in forming the Library’s information resources on various media by:
- Developing a thematic-typological acquisition plan for the Library’s collection and periodically adjusting it;
- Ensuring maximum acquisition of the Library’s collection, including through monitoring compliance with the resolution “On the Procedure for Delivering Mandatory Copies of Documents” and subscribing to professional periodicals;
- Maintaining cumulative and individual document records;
- Removing deaccessioned publications from the records;
- Conducting scientific processing of incoming document flow, as well as retro-cataloging documents of all types on various media in manual and automated modes;
- Organizing and improving the Library’s reference and search apparatus in both traditional and electronic forms according to the “System of Catalogs and Card Files of the V. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Educational Library of Ukraine” to provide free and comprehensive access to the Library’s information resources for users, including remote ones;
- Promoting the collections and fostering information literacy among users using various forms and methods of group and individual work with the Library’s DPA;
- Developing linguistic support for the Library’s information retrieval system (presenting bibliographic data; forming authority files of individual and collective authors, subject headings; UDC classification tables, etc.);
- Developing regulatory, organizational, and methodological materials governing the acquisition and cataloging of documents on various media;
- Improving the use of information and communication technologies in the work of educational libraries, including automated library information systems (ABIS);
- Enhancing professional qualifications. Providing consulting and methodological assistance to Library staff and the network of educational libraries in Ukraine, as well as studying, summarizing, and implementing the experience of leading domestic and foreign libraries in acquisition and cataloging issues;
- Implementing research results of the V. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Educational Library of Ukraine into the practical work of the network of educational libraries of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine;
- Developing mutually beneficial relations with scientific institutions, educational institutions, public organizations, foreign representatives, and leading educational libraries in Ukraine and abroad on issues of domestic and international book exchange and cataloging;
- Expanding cooperation with libraries of scientific institutions of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, educational institutions of various levels of accreditation, and other organizations based on the main directions of the Department’s activities.

Education: Higher education, librarian-bibliographer (Graduated from the Kyiv State Institute of Culture named after O. E. Korniychuk in 1984).

– 2012–2015 – Head of the Scientific Processing of Documents and Catalog Organization Department, V. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Educational Library of Ukraine;
– 2008–2012 – Deputy Director for Scientific and Library Work, V. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Educational Library of Ukraine;
– 2000–2008 – Head of the Scientific Processing and Cataloging of Documents Department, V. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Educational Library of Ukraine;
– 1977–2000 – Work at the All-Union Research Institute for the Mechanization of Livestock Farms (librarian, engineer for scientific and technical information, head of the scientific and technical library).
