Mykola Dmytrovych Yarmachenko (1928 – 2010), a famous Ukrainian pedagogue, scientist, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Honoured Science and Technology Worker of Ukraine, full member, founder, and the first President of the Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, member of the Presidium of the AES of the USSR, specialist in defectology (deaf education), theory and history of pedagogy, head of the Department of Defectology and pro-rector for educational work at the Kyiv O. Horkyi Teachers’ Training Institute, director of the Research Institute of Pedagogy of the Ukrainian SSR, councilor of the Presidium of the AES of Ukraine, initiator of the scientific school of teachers of deaf education and historians of education, author of monographs, manuals on history of pedagogy, psychology, sociology, defectology, deaf education, and some methods of teaching social and natural sciences.
