21 February 2018 marked the 163rd anniversary of the birth of Tymofii Hryhorovych Lubenets (1855 – 1936), a famous Ukrainian pedagogue, popular education figure, specialist in theory and methods of primary education, specialist in preschool education and adult education, lecturer at the First Kyiv Gymnasium, head teacher of popular schools in Kyiv province, head of the experimental labour school in Pushcha-Vodytsia, disciple of K. Ushynskyi and M. Pyrohov’s pedagogical ideas, author of the Ukrainian primer Hramatka (Primer), monographs, textbooks, and manuals. Among them were Pedagigicheskiya besedy (Pedagogical discussions), O naglyadnom prepodavanii (On object teaching), Sbornik arifmeticheskih zadach dlya nachalnogo prepodavaniya arifmetiki v narodnyh uchilishchah (Collection of arithmetical problems for teaching arithmetic for beginners in popular schools), Metodika arifmetiki (Methods of teaching arithmetic), Rodnaya niva (Native bent), Arifmeticheskiya zadachi (Arithmetical problems), and Chitanka (Reader) for labour schools.
