15 October 2018 marked the 122nd anniversary of the birth of Célestin Freinet (1896 – 1966), a French pedagogue, teacher, head teacher of primary school, representative of the so-called ‘progressive pedagogy’, author of teaching techniques (the ‘Freinet techniques’), which were original means of children’s development in tune with democracy, freedom, and self-development, supporter of free education idea and reconstruction of children’s personal experience, founder and head of the International Federation of Modern School Movements, publisher and editor-in chief of L’Éducateur proletarian (Proletarian teacher), L’Enfant Artiste (Children’s art), author of L’imprimerie à l’école (Typography in school), L’École Moderne Française (New French school), L’Éducation morale et civique (Moral and civil education), and Les invariants pédagogiques (Pedagogical invariants).
