23 November 2018 marked the 195th anniversary of the birth of Mykola Khrystyianovych Bunhe, a Ukrainian economist, financier, reformer, pedagogue, statesman, Academician of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences, Professor and rector of the Kyiv University, Minister of Finance of the Russian Empire, head of the Cabinet of Ministers, founder and head teacher of the Kyiv Economic School, creator of innovative ideas regarding higher education reform and improvement, social direction of university activity, organisation and improvement of women’s education and vocational education, etc., one of the organisers of engineering courses in Smila, school for building affairs, and industrial school in Kyiv, author of teaching disciplines, and author of O meste, zanimaemom politicheskoj ekonomiej v sisteme narodnogo obrazovaniya (The place of political economy in the system of popular education) and O sovremennom napravlenii russkih universitetov i o potrebnostyah vysshego obrazovaniya (On currant direction of Russian universities and demands of higher education).
