23 April 2018 marked the 140th anniversary of the birth of Hryhorii Hryhorovych Vashchenko, a Ukrainian pedagogue, psychologist, specialist in didactics and national education, creator of the Ukrainian education system, teacher of zemstvo popular school, women’s gymnasiums, and seminaries, disciple of P. Lesgaft, one of the founders of teachers’ training courses in Pryluky, Romny, and Horol, teacher of pedagogy and psychology in the Teachers’ Training Institute in Poltava, Professor and head of the Department of Pedagogy at the Poltava Teachers’ Training Institute, Professor of Pedagogy in the Ukrainian Free University in Munich, member of the Ukrainian Youth Association abroad, rector of the Theological Academy in Munich, author of Vykhovnyi ideal (Educational ideal), Vykhovannia liubovi do batkivshchyny (natsionalizm i internatsionalizm) (Fostering love for motherland: nationalism and internationalism), Zahalni metody navchannia (General teaching methods), Osnovy estetychnoho vykhovannia (Fundamentals of aesthetic education), and a lot of other textbooks, manuals on paedology, social education, and organisation of children’s establishments.
