Environmental education as an element of national-patriotic upbringing in the process of learning English
Abstract
The article is devoted to the issue of environmental education as an element of national-patriotic upbringing in the process of learning English language with the youth of Ukraine.
It is shown that environmental education and upbringing are important components of the process of forming national patriotism, because love and respect for the nature of the native land affects the formation of conscious citizens and patriots of the Ukrainian independent state. Without studying one's native culture and language, it is impossible to learn a foreign language. The interest in the problem of interaction between cultures has noticeably increased. It is important that people understand the values of their culture and equate them with the values of the cultures of other peoples, and the well-being of this people is essential. During the process of learning English, it is possible to study the nature of the native country and the nature of The United Kingdom. The UK is a country which faced with the environmental problems more than 200 years ago and successfully found the way out of them. Studding these examples Ukrainian students can get information how to help the nature in Ukraine. It definitely helps students to form the pride of being the conscious citizens of Ukraine.
The article indicates that environmental education and upbringing, as elements of the process of forming national patriotism in the process of learning English of the youth of Ukraine, are relatively new material for research, however, the significance of the formation of an ecological worldview of a citizen of Ukraine is difficult to overestimate, because the future of our state cannot be imagined without adequate means and measures of protecting and preserving of the environment. In the process of learning English students can not only read about environmental problems in the United Kingdom, they can compare these problems with those we have in Ukraine. Students can know how they can help the environment studying the examples of British nation.
The conclusion has been made that through the ideas of ecological education and upbringing it is possible to implement a promising and democratic model of the process of formation of national patriotism of the youth of Ukraine while they learn English. The role of the English language, as important tool of the influence in the process of national-patriotism of Ukrainian Youth is shown.
