Digital collection "Scientists of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine": Technology, Content, Significance
Abstract
The article highlights the urgent problem of digital transformation of library activities in the context of the information society and wartime, in particular the need to create electronic information resources for the sectoral direction. The role of pedagogical libraries as modern digital platforms capable of accumulating, structuring, preserving and disseminating scientific knowledge is emphasised. It is noted that digital collections are a key tool for accessing structured information and supporting educational, scientific and cultural activities.
The expediency of transition from traditional databases to intellectualised knowledge bases is substantiated, especially in the context of working with poorly structured information arrays typical for humanities and educational disciplines. Particular attention is paid to the ontological approach to knowledge representation, which allows to ensure semantic compatibility, improve data integration and automate information processing.
The article describes the developed web resource OntOS, which is based on ontological modelling and provides users with tools for creating hierarchically organised digital collections. The software solution is convenient for non-professional users, does not require special technical training, and provides a high level of usability. The article presents an example of a project based on OntOS, an electronic resource “Scientists of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine” that serves as a knowledge base of leading scientists in the field of pedagogy.
Attention is also focused on the new requirements for the professional competence of a digital librarian, in particular, knowledge in the areas of computer layout, graphics, scanning, indexing, and the basics of programming languages. It is concluded that it is necessary to create digital tools that allow the effective use of digital skills of specialists without special engineering education and support the development of digital collections in the library environment.
