Panteleimon Kulish worked as a teacher of the Russian language at St. Petersburg University. He was a founder of his own printing house in St. Petersburg, publisher of the literary <em>Khata<\/em> (Small house) almanac and <em>Osnova<\/em> (Basis) journal, books for popular reading under the general title <em>Silska biblioteka<\/em> (Rural library).
